Denial of the Enemy

Peter would not have opportunity to be proud of his confession that Jesus was “the Christ, the Son of the living God,” seeing that he could be tempted so quickly to deny the necessary betrayal and crucifixion of Jesus. Our next passage in Matthew’s Gospel will show how quickly even a true believer can be tempted to resist God’s interests, especially when the road ahead appears more difficult.
