Pride and Prominence
We return to the wonderful gospel of Matthew, chapter 23. In this passage, Jesus teaches the crowds and His disciples of the hypocrisy of scribes and Pharisees who believe themselves to be worthy of praise and esteem, but who will not even do the very things they believe others should do according to God’s Word. They love to be foremost in conversation and to surround themselves with others of prominence, and yet our Lord will show that what they really deserve is to be humbled. There is a lesson Jesus draws out of this that is as relevant to the church as ever.
