The Parable of the Landowner
As we finish chapter 21 of Matthew's Gospel, we look at another parable Jesus taught to the chief priests and Pharisees concerning a vineyard. This time the landowner faces great loss as those renting his land deal treacherously with the men he sends to receive produce from the vine. Ultimately, the landowner sends his son, whom they kill. Christ uses this to teach the religious leaders that they have treated God with contempt. In a prophetic allusion, He also teaches that they will treat the Son of God with the contempt of the wicked in this story. Many lessons can be learned from the wisdom of Christ as we study this great passage.
