The Sovereignty of God (Part 2): Evil & Suffering

Speaker:
Passage: Job 1
Service Type:

As we continue our study of the sovereignty of God we will look next at the problem of evil and suffering. Atheists have long charged that evil is a problem for a sovereign God, since if He is all powerful but still allows evil, wouldn't that make Him guilty of evil? The atheist from the outset has a conundrum, since they speak of good and evil, but have no objective basis on which to base their ethics or morality. Without God there are not even categories of good and evil. Still, the problem of evil and suffering is still a difficult one to properly understand. Error on the one side makes God less than Almighty, and error on the other side makes Him seem to be guilty of sin. Thankfully, the book of Job gives us one of the most incredible accounts of both evil and suffering, framing it in light of God's sovereignty as well as His lovingkindness to those who call Him Lord.
